Siamville is in the exact location that "Thai Flavors" used to be (in fact as of 8/26/08 they have yet to take down the lighted sign for thai flavors on the store front.) This is not the old Thai Flavors...the place has been completely remodeled and the menu has been upgraded. There is even a liquor license now so you can purchase beer or wine to enjoy with your meal. The food was very good, I tried the special of the day which was stir fried eggplant with Shrimp...I'm not really sure why I didn't try the pad thai, but at least I have something to try next time. My wife tried the Beef Salad and found it to be HOT!! She did however really enjoy the tom kha soup. That seemed to be especially authentic. The service was a little slow, but I imagine because of the "help wanted" sign that they are still looking for additional wait staff to supplement the one poor fellow who served us. All in all a very good place and one we will definitely look forward to visiting again.

Good Food. Love the beef salad & curries. I have tried several of the noodle dishes and like them all. However a lot of them seem to have very similar flavors. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Would recommend.

Don't let the outside fool you, this is a great restaurant, with a nice atmosphere and good food. If you like Thai food, the menu and flavors will not disappoint you. There is a wide variety of traditional and chef's originals to taste. Most dishes I've had are a bit spicy, so if you want less heat make sure to ask. The Thai tea is very good, but you don't have the option of Boba - which when I asked the waitress didn't know what I was talking about.

My wife and I really like this restaurant, the appetizers are great! Meals come a little slow when more than eight to ten people are dining.

Good food, good service - what more can you ask for? After a horrendous night trying to get into other restaurants, we decided to try Siamville. We were a little leery - we knew the old Thai Flavors didn't have the best reputation and hadn't heard much about Siamville. But we were pleasantly surprised by what we found. The food was tasty - it was spicy, but the heat didn't overwhelm the flavors of the food. As other reviewers have noted, the service was quick and professional. This is definitely the best Thai food in Cedar Rapids - we'll be back again!

Good food and they know how to spice it up as well as any of the better Thai places. Be careful and don't go past 2 starts unless you truly have a palate of iron. I do recommend this place as it is the best Thai I have had since moving from Chicago area 10 years ago.

Don't let the strip mall location discourage a visit to this family owned Thai restaurant. Siamville is a gem on the Cedar Rapids restaurant scene. Go to regular Thai dishes are well done, including their curries, Tom Ka soup, and Pad Thai. But their basil fish dish is a stand out. Lunch specials include appetizer and drink. I recommend ordering a side of brown rice in place of the white rice.

Such a hidden gem! Went here on a business trip with coworkers and everyone loved their food. Potstickers, green curry, and kua kai were the favorites. Don't be put off by the mall - you'll miss out.

The restaurant was clean, service friendly, and food amazing! I had a lunch special with the green curry and pot stickers. The flavor of the curry was delicious!Perfectly spicy and tender chunks of chicken. The roasted eggplant in the curry was astounding -it had a flavor I never knew existed and it melted in my mouth. Absolutely amazing! I'm no expert in Thai cuisine, so I can't comment on its authenticity. However, if you appreciate fresh, unique flavors crafted by chefs who care, you should check it out!

I get really cranky when Thai restaurant won't chop some chicken for some pad kra pow. What's the big frickin deal, huh? Just take a cleaver and play "what does the fox say" and go wa pa pa pa pow on that shit. Gah. However, tonight, since my server was sweet and unlike the other server I recently had who wouldn't chop the chicken, I was not as cranky. The last server (not here) was an ass and he told me that they make it different ways in Thailand and they wouldn't chop theirs. Ugh. This girl was super nice and offered pork as an alternative since they had ground pork. I declined because I saw other things that sounded interesting on their menu. I guess it was a blessing in disguise as it allowed me to try something different for once. I went with pad cha pla which was deep fried chunks of Haddocks in spicy red pepper sauce and kachai strips with a hint of kaffir lime. It just sounded good to me and it got my interest right away. I started with my usual tom yum with shrimps and it was okay. It was a little too sweet for me, a little thick, and too big chunks of tomatoes. It was alright. I like mine thinner in broth, spicier, more sour, no tomatoes, with lots of shrooms. The fish though....oh my pants. I did ask for five for spice level and it was inhumanely hot. However, I apparently was not human because I lurvvved it. I was sweating and my tummy was on fire. Hot damn that was awesome. The fish itself were fried to perfection. The whole combo of spicy and sweet was just delicious. The restaurant was tucked in on a corner of a strip mall. It was not visible from the road. The strip mall was also kind of dumpy and dodgy. However, the inside was nice and decent and food was fantastic. Yay! I think I found another place to visit frequently when in town. I really didn't think I would be saying this after no chop chop for chicken for me. I usually would get p.o'd and unforgiving. Though I was totally pmsing and sorry for the tmi, I was really impressed with the fish that I would overlook my pet peeve. Way to go. That was the first. I usually would toss Thai restaurants that won't chop my chicken for me like a pile of worthless crappy dates and say buh bye. This is not good bye though. We'll see you again soon!

The prices are from the 1980s. Food is great. Would never suspect a small hole in the wall place to be this good. Very good spice and flavor. I was very pleased and will definitely go back! Service was great too

Sketchy storefront in a strip mall and enter through an odd foyer with random doors... this is one of those don't judge a book by its cover sort of places. Spicy Crab Rangoon for appetizer (not typically a Thai thing, but tasty and a perfect start to the meal!) I think five came out so there was a tussle over who got that last one. Then Pad Thai with chicken and Panang Curry with beef; I wish both dishes had more heat in terms of spice. Must remember this when ordering midwest food. I'm huge fan of sauces and coconut flavor so the curry was on pretty much on point, but I do think the star of the show was the Pad Thai. Overall a pleasing meal and would return. Our waitress was fabulous as well! She deserves a nod for knowing the menu and making helpful suggestions.

Well so here I am in Cedar Rapids Iowa. So of course I'm looking for the nearest Thai place, cause you know, like, it's Cedar Rapids. At first I was all "oh no! Maybe they don't have Thai food! That would suck!" Then I came across this place! And found out that Cedar Rapids doesn't have Thai food. Listen don't get me wrong, the Indian food I had was stunning. One of the best curries I've had, minus the naan bread of course because you know this is a Thai place. Look authentic Thai it's not, it's about as Siamese as Yule Brenner but, he was awesome in the king and I. So really it's a win win. See what I'm sayin'?

Stopped by around noon on a Friday for lunch by myself. Was greeted right away and seated. My server was there within a minute. They feature a basic lunch menu deal with small appetizer and entree so it isn't hard. I picked the yellow curry with pork and crab Rangoon with a bottle of kirin ichiban. I had the app before i could finish check-in on here and my main dish before i could start the second rangoon. Great timing for lunch service. Portion size was just right. Two scoops of rice and the curry portion was just perfect. Left with a full belly for less than fifteen dollars in about half an hour.

The atmosphere is okay. Soft music and very low lighting. If you are older, you may have trouble reading the menu though. They have some nice artifacts displayed; however the pictures on the walls look like photos tacked onto colored cardboard. Not a big deal since they are fairly small and the overall ambiance is nice in spite of it. The table cloths are some sort of oriental design and fabric covered with a glass covering and there are vases of fake flowers on each table. The service was friendly and I could understand everything the waitress said. She was quiet, but very sweet. She was able to answer our questions about the food without hesitation. She checked back on us to make sure the food was good and she offered refills of water. The food was great. We all got Pad Thai. It was good, I got level 3 which is a little hotter than medium heat. If you like super burn your guts out spicy, get level 6. Just enough to make my mouth burn without making my throat sore. The only negative I have on it is that the peanuts were stale. They come on the side of the dish, so just taste them before you put them on it. The only place I have had better Pad Thai was at The Green Papaya in Montgomery, AL.The rice noodles were perfectly cooked. I tasted a sip of the Singa beer and it was surprisingly good. I am not a beer drinker, but this one has a good balance of flavor, with a tangy, sort of almost lime taste to it. By the way, Singa beer is recommended to go with Pad Thai. I ordered a cup of Tom Kha soup for us all to try. It was really a small bowl with a handle on it. It was AMAZING! They leave the kaffir lime leaves, ginger slice and lemongrass stalk in it, so you have to be careful not to eat them, but the flavors were blended so perfectly. It has a coconut milk base, but no coconut flavor really. Thai basil, mushroom, kaffir lime and lemongrass are the predominant flavors with a milky, but not creamy texture from the coconut milk, not heavy like cow milk cream soups, it was more brothy. I did not realize it had chicken in it when I ordered it. Next time, I will order it without the chicken. I guess I would describe it as tangy, savory, ever so slightly sweet and a hint of earthy (from the mushrooms). I give the soup 5 stars for sure. The prices are very reasonable. Pad Thai was only $6.75 for lunch and the soup was $3.50. It was $29 and some change for 3 Pad Thai, cup of soup a beer and 2 glasses of water. Of course, I added tip on top of that. I will definitely eat here again. NOTE for my vegan friends: You can order the majority of their dishes without any meat or with tofu.

I've been getting take out from here a lot lately and I pretty much go with my normal pad thai noodles with shrimp and chicken and prong cakes, I think I need to step up to the grade 5 for spiceyness though 4 isn't cutting it for me. Great as always and just noticed the other day there was a yelp sticker in the window first I've seen in CR and wish I had some to stick in other business's windows!

Simply put, the Pumpkin Curry lunch special was one of the most amazing things I've ever had. Spicy, but incredible. Great ambience and decent service as well.

Disappointing. Came with my dad for lunch while visiting Cedar Rapids. The service was slow and the server's confused. My biggest complaint is that they don't really offer a lunch special like the majority of Thai restaurants do. I would expect a lunch portion with salad, soup and a spring roll. Siamville is all a la carte. I started with the tom yum and the server looked at me like I had ordered something she had never heard of. Once we determined that they did have tom yum, it came out and was hot and quite tasty. I also ordered a spring roll and the pad thai and requested it be spicy. My dad ordered the cashew chicken and was very pleased with it. My pad thai came out but not my spring roll so I inquired about it. The cook read back our entire order including the spring roll and then went back to get it. Probably wasn't necessary to read back our whole order when only one thing was visibly missing. The pad thai was disappointing--extremely bland and with no heat or spice. I also asked for extra egg but couldn't tell if there was extra. Maybe I'm just really demanding...(???) There was a lot of confusion when it came to checks as there were several tables at the time. We weren't sure if we went up to pay or they brought the check and they seemed unsure as well. At one point, one of the cooks was attempting to ring up checks. A bit of a cluster. I overheard a customer tell the server, "I always have such bad luck with service when I come. Do you have more people in the afternoon?" She said they did beginning at one, so that may be a better time to come. The decor is lacking and quite cold. A sign says they will not answer take-out calls from blocked numbers. Kind of funny, because if you had a blocked number you would never know why they didn't answer because you wouldn't have the opportunity to pick up your take out (that you couldn't order). Also, walking in from the parking lot, it is very hard to tell if they are even open which I'm sure discourages some from stopping in. I'm all for diverse dining options in CR, but unfortunately, Siamville falls short.

Friendly service. Great food. Nice atmosphere. don't judge by the surrounding shopping strip. This is a gem tucked in a corner.

One of my favorite spots in town for a quite night out. The staff is attentive enough but gives plenty of space. I typically get a curry dish (green or masaman) and love that they will make it to your taste (1-5 flames). This is a restaurant I enjoy taking my friends from out of town to, it's always a hit.

Very good red curry. Also had the chicken skewers appetizer, which was approachable, but not "wow". Overall this is a decent place and would serve well as an "introduction" to Thai food, but I wish they'd get more ambitious and really surprise you with the food. I'm just not satisfied with good, especially for the price. Also, the setting is awkward. Once you're in the restaurant, all that fades away, but to have to go to this weird, run-down strip mall, and it's in the corner, somewhat hidden, detracts from it.

Delicious. If you're looking for Asian food, this is the best I've tried in Cedar Rapids. It doesn't get 5 star cos portion is small yet a lil high on the price.

0 Stars!!!! I have never stepped foot in an restaurant that ranks lower than 2 stars and unfortunately, it had to be Siamville. As a foodie who has lived all over California from the Bay Area to LA, Santa Barbara, OC and San Diego I have had the luxury of having every type of Asian food under the sun at my disposal. Needless to say, I know GOOD Thai food when I see it (taste it). I flew to Iowa last weekend for my cousin's wedding which I haven't been able to visit since I was 5. I heard Asian food in Iowa is practically non-existent and sub-par yet my Aunt and I were craving Thai food and was willing to give Siamville a shot. Upon arrival we noticed the restaurant was located in the corner of a small shopping complex with completely covered windows that doesn't allow customers (and potential customers) to see through the window. That should have warned us of what laid ahead but we wanted our Pad Thai and Tom Yum soup and so we proceeded inside. Service was ridiculous slow, there was only one waiter working and he was running around the restaurant trying to wait on the 8-9 parties that were present. I typically get the Chicken Pad Thai or the Thai Beef salad when I go to Thai places because of how much I love the tangyness of the noodles that Thai food is known for but was convinced by my aunt to try something new this time. I settled for the Larb salad with ground turkey--an interesting option on the menu which was recommended by the server. My aunt ordered the Tom Yum soup which she was surprised to find out there was an additional cost to include sea food (which is usually already included in the soup). After a LONNNNGGG 20-30 min. wait for our food (which I spent my time compiling my Yelp review) I was sadly greeted with a plate of butchered ground turkey and a few sprigs of cilantro stirred in. PATHETIC. There was also no 'roasted rice' to be seen or tasted. My aunt's soup was PATHETIC as well. She could not find any tofu in her soup and the 'scallops' she ordered were no where to be found and instead received a plate full of tough calamari. I was so upset with my meal I left it untouched and my aunt took three sips of her soup and pushed it aside. The server came by 20 min. into our meal and asked how we liked our food ( that sat untouched on our table in front of us). Seriously?! If you want good Thai food I recommend NOT COMING HERE.

The fried tofu is spectacular! The pad Thai was too heavy on fish sauce for my taste. The stir fry was average. The service was horrible! Our server(male) never asked how our food was, never refilled our waters, and was rude. My husband went to pay and all the server said to him was, "do you have your credit card?" That's it, "do you have your credit card?"

Get the rangoons and pad cashew nut (stir-fry)! While I am not an expert in Thai cuisine by any means, this place has great food! I am a big fan of spicy food so this place is even better for me. I also took some friends there that aren't huge fans of spicy, and they still found dishes that were excellent! The service is very good! I tried another Thai place in town, but this place has way better service and food. Before they implemented the "5 stars of hotness" a buddy of mine asked for extra, extra spicy, and while he finished his meal (barely), I think he had some stomach pains for an entire day :). I would recommend 3 stars hotness level if you really like hot. Only go to 4 or 5 if you like to sweat while eating :P

My first visit here, I had to try a couple of my favorites to see how well they make them. So I ordered Pot stickers and pad Thai. The pot stickers were fully fried, not just on the bottoms but were very hot and crispy. pad Thai with tofu was tasty, fairly mild. the tofu was soft, not fried. serving size was substantial. easily 2 meals for a light eater. overall a very pleasant meal. Service was attentive and quick. There were only a handful of patrons in the restaurant that night.

My wife and I have lived in CR for about 9 months now, and Siamville is still one of our absolute favorites. Hidden deceptively in the corner of an older strip mall, Siamville is awesome. Great lunch specials, I strongly recommend green curry. We're big fans of Thai food, and this is one of the best we've found. Oh, and do yourself a favor and order the Ginger Tea while you're there.

Thai food is my favorite cuisine and I have eaten at quite a few Thai restaurant in various cities. Siamville compares very well with the best Thai restaurants I have eaten at. I consider their food to be the tastiest in the IC-CR area. The restaurant has a somewhat formal look and atmosphere inside. Service can be a bit slow. The food is presented better on the plate than most other asian restaurants in the area. Stir friend rice with basil leaf and seafood is one of my favorites. The curries are quite good. They have some really good fish and seafood specials if you want to get a bit more adventuresome, especially those with the spicy sweet chili sauce. Flavors are very vivid. No blandness here. I like spicy food and medium spicy is hot enough for me. The restaurant is hidden in a run-down strip mall. If you like Thai food you will find it well worth the effort to find it.

I concur with all the other reviews-- this really is a great Thai place in Cedar Rapids. I have had many dishes, but really love the Panang curry. In my opinion, too, this place trumps the two main Thai restaurants in Iowa City.
